Abbimed D-Prosta 30caps (Nutritional Supplement for the Good Functioning of the Prostate & Urinary System)

The balanced combination of natural products that contributes to the good functioning of theprostate  of the urinary system.

Benefits

  • Various plant extracts obtained from the roots, seeds, fruits or bark of various plants, such as Saw palmetto (Serenoa Repens) contain numerous active ingredients that contribute to good functioning of the prostate and the urinary system, such as phytosterolsβ-sitosterolquercetin, lycopene, terpinoids, fatty acids, lectins, plant oils, polysaccharides, flavonoids, phytoestrogens and sterols.
  • The food supplement D-PROSTA is a combination of the phytotherapeutics, Saw palmetto (Serenoa Repens,) quercetin and lycopene and the non-pharmaceutical agents, of zinc and vitamin D, in a suitable concentration, to help support the normal function of the prostate and lower urinary tract by taking a single dose per day. It has anti-inflammatoryanti-inflammatory action and contributes to the relief of symptoms caused by chronic and acute benign prostatic hyperplasia, without affecting sexual ability.

Ingredients

  • Saw saw palmetto (Serenoa Repens)

Saw palmetto is a small perennial palm that grows on the southern coast of the US and tropical Central and South America. Its fruit is black and oval or spherical, rich in fatty acids and phytosterols. Based on a wealth of certified scientific data, it has been classified as a basic phyto-therapeutic for the symptomatic treatment of prostate and lower urinary tract problems. Proposed mechanisms of action include:

  • Antiandrogenic activity
  • Inhibition of type 1 and 2 isozymes of 5-α reductase
  • Inhibition of growth factors
  • Anti-inflammatory activity
  • Anti-estrogenic activity
  • Anti-inflammatory action.

  • Quercetin

Flavonoid found in more than 20 fruits and vegetables and known for its anti-inflammatory, anti-oxidative and anti-cancer properties. It exhibits anti-hypertensive, vasodilating properties, but also action against obesity, hyper-cholesterolemia and atherosclerosis. It is remarkable that despite its highly cytotoxic effect against cancer cells, it shows little or no effect against normal cells. At the same time, it induces apoptosis, while inhibiting cell proliferation through a variety of mechanisms (Table 1). Its therapeutic effect has been studied in many forms of cancer, both in vitro and in vivo, while there is a wealth of data related to prostate cancer. Quercetin appears to prevent the initiation of this type of cancer by indirectly inhibiting the promoters of two very important genes, AR and PSA. In vivo studies of the administration of a combination of quercetin and chemotherapeutics showed induction of removal of the resistance of cancer cells to apoptosis and limitation of the side effects of chemotherapeutics. Clinical studies are needed to determine the required dose and duration of administration, but also to find biomarkers that predict response to treatment. Finally, the clinical use of quercetin has not yet been established, due to limited data on its pharmacokinetics.

  • Lycopene

Lycopene is an antioxidant, belongs to the carotenoid family and is found in red and yellow fruits and vegetables. It has antioxidant and antiproliferative properties and exhibits anticancer activity through its involvement in the activation and induction of apoptosis, cell cycle arrest, and the mechanisms of cell adhesion, metastasis, infiltration, and angiogenesis. At the same time, it reduces PSA levels in the serum and controls inflammation cytokines. These findings suggest that lycopene could be used in the prevention and even treatment of prostate cancer. In men at increased risk of developing prostate cancer, increased dietary intake of lycopene may lead to changes in circulating levels of valine, acetate, pyruvate and di-acyl-glycerol. Based on studies, pyruvate may be causally related to prostate cancer, therefore lycopene, by helping to reduce its levels, may help prevent prostate cancer in these individuals.

  • Zinc (sulphate)

Prostatic fluid and the peripheral zone of the prostate are known to contain high levels of zinc (Zn) and of citrate. In particular, the concentration of Zn in prostatic fluid is estimated at 590 µg/g and is approximately 500 times higher than that of plasma, while in the peripheral zone it is 10–20 times higher than that of other similar structures in the body. This is due to the fact that the epithelial cells of the peripheral zone accumulate Zn required for the production and secretion of citrate in the prostate, leading to the inhibition of mitochondrial aconitase which catalyzes the conversion of citrate to isocitrate in the early stages of the Krebs cycle. Thus, high Zn concentrations lead to high citrate concentrations and a high citrate/isocitrate fraction in the epithelial cells of the peripheral zone of the prostate, demonstrating the very important role of Zn in the normal prostate. The reduction of Zn levels (60-80%), and thus of citrate, is the most characteristic feature of prostate cancer and is inversely related to the progression of the disease. The role of Zn as a regulator of apoptosis probably makes this reduction a causative factor rather than a consequence of the disease. Therefore, a sufficient dietary intake of Zn is very important for adult men, since it strengthens the normal function of the prostate and prevents the occurrence of diseases related to the progress of age.

  • Cholecalciferol (Vitamin D3

Cholecalciferol is a molecular type of the vitamin D and is produced in the skin under the influence of solar radiation. It is fat-soluble and is involved in the absorption of calcium and phosphorus, participating in bone metabolism, while it also has an important role in other tissues. Cholecalciferol receptor signaling appears to be important in prostate cancer. Administering it to tumor models in crickets inhibited the growth of tumors. In summary, it has been found to be involved in the induction of cell cycle arrest, apoptosis, expression of the tumor suppressor gene p53, differentiation, and the inhibition of angiogenesis, invasion, and metastasis, however, the exact mechanism of its antitumor activity has not yet been found.
