Properties & actions of R-Alpha Lipoic Acid:< /p>

It is a compound that contains sulfur in the form of two thiol groups and acts as a cofactor for several mitochondrial enzymes, catalyzing α-ketoacid. It looks like a vitamin, but belongs to the category of antioxidants. It is synthesized endogenously in the body and binds to proteins.

The antioxidant properties of lipoic acid vary:

• it exhibits chelating activity for iron (Fe) and copper (Cu) , preventing neurodegenerative diseases related to heavy metal-induced oxidative stress.
• has the ability to directly neutralize ROS and the potential to react with other antioxidants, such as glutathione, coenzyme Q10 and vitamins E and C, contributing to their regeneration and improving their antioxidant activity.
• also demonstrates anti-inflammatory properties. Therefore it is used in various diseases dependent on oxidative stress.
• it is particularly effective in cardiovascular diseases, including, ischemic heart disease, hypertension, heart failure, and atherosclerosis
• may slow aging, thereby extending the life life.
• improves blood flow and strengthens the function of the immune system.
• many studies have confirmed that lipoic acid  improves vascular function and reduces the burden of atherosclerotic plaques. Acts as an active chelating agent of ions - transition metals, redox, preventing lipid peroxidation in mitochondria.

Liposomes since they are prepared from structural materials like those of our cells have advantages which they are related to the 'friendliness' of human tissues. They have the ability to transport lipophilic bioactive molecules which do not dissolve easily in aqueous media and therefore have absorption and bioavailability problems, e.g. vitamins, curcumin etc., but also water-soluble or amphiphilic molecules, are improved in terms of their dissolution rate and absorption through the gastrointestinal tract.

Liposomes can and do transport bioactive substances and improve their penetration from the barriers of the gastrointestinal tract and are effective 'vehicles' for the transport of bioactive molecules.
